The Hives

Our small batch, seasonal honey comes from hives located here on the farm. We harvest in a sustainable and ethical manner, only removing surplus honey and leaving the bees with ample resources. The color, flavor, and consistency varies by season and year - based on the flowers, trees and other plants from which the bees have foraged pollen and nectar.

Our honey is truly raw - never heated. Nothing is added, nor removed. We use all natural and organic methods to promote the health of the bees (and other pollinators), the environment and us humans! In addition to raw honey, we hope to offer comb honey and pure beeswax later in 2023.

the lavender

Planting rows of lavender plants

Our first summer here on the farm, we were mesmerized by the scent and beauty of a giant lavender shrub planted by the former owner. While in bloom, the lavender hummed and vibrated with so many pollinators visiting. After an initial trial of several lavender varieties, we planted over 200 plants (8 different varieties) in 2022.

When the first blooms start opening in early summer, the flowers are hand harvested and hung to dry. Different varieties are suited to different uses - dried flowers, buds for sachets, culinary buds for use in baking, drinks or savory recipes and varieties best suited for distillation, providing essential oil and hydrosol.

plants & seeds

We offer a selection of Virginia ecotype native seeds and plants. These plants have adapted to the local climate and soil, providing food and habitat for native wildlife such as birds, insects, and mammals. By planting and preserving native species, we can help maintain a healthy and diverse ecosystem, which is vital for maintaining clean air and water, reducing erosion, and promoting biodiversity.

In addition to propagating many of the incredible plants already growing wild here in the fields and forest, we are also working to restore populations of other native plants for future seed production.Seeds are available for shipping most of the year. Plugs and bareroot shrubs and trees are available seasonally, in limited quantities. Each spring, we also offer a curated selection of naturally grown tomato and herb seedlings, so you can enjoy the same incredible heirloom varieties in your garden that we grow in ours.
